We've all experienced them... those annoying co-workers who exist solely to make our working lives as difficult as possible.
To prove you're not alone in your annoyance, Business Week has created a list of 10 different colleague-from-hell categories. In summary, here are four personalities you may be familiar with:
The Pessimist
The problem: always negative, sometimes contagiously so; have a gift for demotivating those around them
The solution: flatter them until they go away; or remind them that if things are so bad perhaps they should work somewhere else
The Time Thief
The problem: hangs around other people's desks a lot, interrupts too much, sends too many joke emails
The solution: if you like them, ask them out for coffee and clearly keep socialisation a "breaks only" thing; if you don't like them, get a headset and pretend to be on the phone
The Back Stabber
The problem: "sneaky, stealthy, cowardly"
The solution: confront them face-to-face; it's what they fear most
The Underminer
The problem: lives to argue with you, loves to correct you
The solution: double check your work when dealing with them, they can't argue with the facts
