Skills shortage concerns

More Emerging workplace trends indicate Australia's skills shortage is serious and destined to get worse, Smart Manager reports.

Department of Employment & Workplace Relations data shows there are severe shortages in the fields of childcare, health, education, engineering, IT, electrical trades and construction.

Regional differences were also identified with employers outside Melbourne and Sydney finding it hard to attract staff with suitable business skills and information technology knowledge.

To alleviate the problem it's suggested employers invest in the training and development of their existing workforce; in addition, HR managers are urged to find ways to retain older workers.
